Food Matters Manitoba is seeking new members to join its volunteer Board of Directors.

 

ABOUT FOOD MATTERS MANITOBA

 

Food Matters Manitoba (FMM) is a Winnipeg-based charitable organization working to improve food security across the province, with a strong focus on northern communities. FMM works in partnership with various northern communities to harvest wild foods and redistribute food among members; support community gardening and livestock endeavors to enhance local food systems; invest in youth programming to build hope and capacity; and promote knowledge transfer through intergenerational mentorship and experiential learning. FMM’s work is vitally important to combat growing food insecurity, improve individual and community well-being, and restore Indigenous food sovereignty in Manitoba.

 

TERM:

This is a two-year commitment (renewable term)

 

TIME COMMITMENT:

Preparing for and attendance at:

  • 6 bi-monthly board meetings each year (held on the third Tuesday of the months Feb, April, June, August, Oct and Dec from 5-7 pm)
  • One Annual General Meeting in September
  • Additional committee work based on interest and availability
  • Board members are encouraged to attend fundraisers and events

EXPERIENCE:

The ideal candidate will live in Manitoba, have an interest in sustainable food systems, and be willing to share their expertise in any of the following areas:

  • Finance
  • Legal
  • Fundraising and community outreach,
  • Policy and government relations

 

The board is seeking increased levels of Indigenous representation and strongly encourages people who identify as Indigenous to apply.
