Pimicikamak

Here are the different ways in which we currently support the important work of our partners in Pimicikamak (Cross Lake)

Traditional Harvesting

Our harvesting partner in Pimicikamak has an established land-based learning program that they’d already been running for years before our partnership started. We help support their work by sending materials, such as seasonal clothing, fall hunting gear, and food processing equipment.

Gardening

We send seeds and shrubs every spring to help our partners continue their great work growing food for the community.

Livestock

Our Pimicikamak partners host an experimental northern large livestock farm within the community. They currently care for pigs, sheep, geese, and chickens.

Map of Our Work
Food Matters Manitoba works to advance food security and food sovereignty for Indigenous peoples in Manitoba.
Our offices are located on Treaty Ten and Treaty One Territories, on the original lands of the Anishinaabeg, Ininiwak, Anisininewuk, Dakota Oyate, Dene and Inuit, and on the National Homeland of the Red River Métis. Our work also includes working alongside communities across Treaty Territories 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.
